The Bolshoi is a historic theatre in Moscow, which holds performances of ballet and opera. The Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera are amongst the oldest and most renowned ballet and opera companies in the world. The theatre is the parent company of The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, a world-famous leading school of ballet.

I was invited to attend "The Pharaoh's Daughter" ballet, which was my first ever ballet, and my first ever visiting of the imperial Bolshoi theatre.
Меня пригласили на балет под названием "Дочь Фараона". Если верить брошюрке, этот балет танцевали почти все знаменитые балерины:) И это был первый в моей жизни балет, и первое в жизни посещение Большого театра:)

What can I say? That was gorgeous! The theatre is so beautiful, it is hard to put that imperial beauty in words:) And I liked the ballet a lot: the language of dance is international: everyone understands it and adores it.
Что можно еще добавить? Большой театр внутри так красив, что захватывает дух. Золотое великолепие. Потрясает. Много туристов - всем понятен интернациональный язык танца. И сам балет - прекрасен. Как они двигаются!

A little update to this post.

You know my friend (and a friend of many hangglider pilots, and a pilot himself) Timothy Ettridge. After I published this little story about Bolshoi, he mentioned that (attention, very interesting story!) he performed at the Bolshoi, as part of a choir accompanying an orchestra!

This is his story:

"Back in 1988, when I was 33, an internationally renowned conductor, Hungarian Antal Dorati, had retired from conducting and had decided to devote the remainder of his life (only two years, as it turned out) to promoting world peace. One way he decided to do this was to gather a collection of musicians from both east and west of the 'Cold War' border and tour four cities on both sides of the ideological divide of east and west, performing Beethoven's Missa Solenis (Solemn Mass), which Beethoven had dedicated, "For inner and outer peace."

The orchestra was gathered one musician at a time from all around east and west Europe. Since it's much more difficult to build a choir piecemeal like that, and since Dorati was from the east (Hungary), he choose my choir, an American one, to balance the equation.

The four cities we performed in were London and West Berlin representing the west, and Dresden and Moscow representing the east.

And that's how I came to perform at the Bolshoi. That was my first trip to Russia."

В 1988 году, в составе американского хора, под руководством дирижера Антала Дорати, он выступал в Лондоне, Берлине, Дрездене и Москве. Обалденно:)!

I met my hang gliding friends, which are married and have a little cute child now, and we had been exploring the Moscow Zoo the whole day long:)

I found the bears the smartest animals in the zoo. Maybe they came from a circus? They were performing so funny to earn some sweets from the public:)
Мне показалось, что самые умные звери в зоопарке - медведи. Или они там все с цирка:)? Они махали лапками, кланялись, - устраивали всяческие представления, чтобы заполучить подачку из публики.

And now... Working time is over, and hang gliding adventures are coming:) Yeehaw:)!

Просто в межсезонье дел столько, что некогда писать даже о былых успехах и приключениях. Австралийские путешествия остаются недорассказанными. Альпийские перелёты занимают только один пост вместо заслуженных десяти. Тщательно отснятое видео пылится на полке...
The cruel reality is that when I am in my "city-mode" (or "working-mode", or "inbetween-flying-mode"), there are so many things on my to-do list that I can't find the time for describing my latest adventures. The Australian Malibu tour was left untold. XAlps got only one post instead of the ten it deserved. So much nice and educational footage is covered with dust on the shelf...

Да, это отнимает бОльшую часть времени, как ни крути. Я работаю С# программистом над интересным проектом в фирме The United Traders - да-да, той самой, которая выиграла конкурс лучший инвестор года 2011. И мне нравится тут работать. Во-первых, потому что меня на работе учат, повышают квалификацию, и еще и деньги за это платят. Во-вторых, потому что здесь работают люди, пришедшие с самых разных профессий с самым разным жизненным опытом - потрясающий коллектив. В-третьих, меня отпускают летать!

Yes, it takes most of my time. I work as a C# programmer on an interesting project in a Moscow company called "The United Traders". And I like to work here. First of all, they teach me many new things, so I grow as a programmer, and they pay me money for that. Secondly, because the people, who work here either as traders or managers or even programmers came here from very different professional backgrounds and a life experiences. Very interesting people! And lastly, they let me go flying!

Yes, Artur and I are Russian Moyes dealers. We made a web-site Moyes-Russia.com, where we put all the information about Moyes production in the Russian language. We import spare parts to Russia, and help Russian Moyes pilots as much as we can.

- Хожу на танцы (на этот раз - аргентинское танго), в кино (из последних просмотренных фильмов советую "1+1"), зимой каталась на лыжах, летом гуляю по Москве (особенно по старым улочкам центральной Москвы). Ну и еще парой веб-проектов я занимаюсь, но об этом позже.
- I attend dancing lessons (Argentine tango this time); go to cinema (from recently watched movies I would highly recommend the "Intouchables"); ski when it is winter; walk through the Moscow streets and parks when it is summer (especially in the cute, narrow old streets of central Moscow). Also I work on a couple more web-projects for myself - will tell more later about them.

In Moscow

Recently I visited two other capitals: Berlin (Germany) and Vienna (Austria).

Берлин впечатлил своими грандиозными зданиями, и сохраненной историей времен берлинской стены.
Berlin impressed me with its colossal buildings, and with the history they kept from the times of the Berlin wall.

Вена - своей волшебностью сказки, замками, повозками, кучерами, музыкантами.
Vienna charmed me with its magic of fairy tales: castles, coaches and coachmen, musicians.

- Ну и езжу летать иногда! А писать некогда. Буду добавлять фотки хотя бы.
And sometimes I go to fly! And no time to write. I will post some photos instead, I promise:)

Благодаря снегопадам в ночь на свое день рождения я оказалась на лыжной трассе - впервые после 3х летнего перерыва. Так что Сутки Рождения, если можно так выразится, начались прекрасно, и так пролетели, полные позитива:) Спасибо всем друзьям:)
Because of the huge snowfall during last few days, on the night before my Birthday I ended up at the ski resort - first time after three years break. So, my Birthday and Birth-night (if I may say so:), started wonderfully and kept beeing warm, positive and happy whole day long:) Thanks to all my friends for that:)!

News. Chaotic.

В Костанае уже выпал снег. Вот мой милый племянник Тимурка. Ему год и пять месяцев, и он, как видите, вовсю наслаждается выпавшим снегом:)
In Kostanay, Kazakhstan, it is snowing already. This is my dear nephew Timur. He is one year and five months old, and, as you can see, he is happy to see and to play with his first ever snowfall:)

А в Москве снегом и не пахнет. Тем сильнее чувствуется расстояние...

In Moscow there isn't even a hint of snow yet. It makes me feel how far I am from my family...

В Чите вовсю летают Драгонфлаи. Лёня крутит нереально крутой пилотаж, тягает дельтиков, бросает парашютистов. И главное - делает же еще мувики:)!
In Chita, Siberia, Russia, Dragonflies don't stop performing despite the winter's coming. Leonid tows hangglider pilots, does crazy aerobatic tricks, hauls skydivers up in the sky. And - the most important part - he makes movies!

А видели ли вы раньше Драгонфлаи, летающие зимой, стартующие со снега? Я - нет:), пока не посмотрела новый мувик из Читы:)
Have you ever seen a Dragonfly, taking off from the snowy field? I haven't, until I saw this new movie from Chita:)

В Канангре Джонни выиграл первые в этом австралийском сезоне соревнования, через три недели после операции на колене. Один из его стартов был заснят и выглядит впечатляюще!
In Canungra, Jonny Durand took first place in Australia's first competition of their season downunder, despite undergoing knee surgery only three weeks before. Kathryn filmed one of his launches, it looks impressive!

В Индии на начинающего пилота-парапланериста напал гриф, после чего парапланерист вместе с грифом спустились на запаске и долго друг от друга отпутывались. История широко разошлась даже среди нелетающих людей, и некоторые телекомпании даже предлагали пилоту выкупить у него видео.
In India, a vulture hit a paraglider's canopy, which led to them both falling down together under the pilot's reserve chute and then eventually trying to untangle themselves on the ground. The story got a lot of media coverage, and a few TV companies wanted to buy this video from the pilot (if you press the "CC" button on youtube, you will see subtitles in English).

Уже почти зима, а Матьяж и куча других пилотов до сих пор летают в Словении! Матьяж так расписывает полеты, и делает такие видяшки, что хочется уже перебираться жить в Европу, что ли!
It is almost winter already, but Matjaz and other pilots are still flying in Slovenia! Matjaz's movie speaks so eloquently about their flying that it makes many of us want to come and live in Europe:)!

В Австралии уже лето, и народ вылез на пляжи летать на Малибушках... Мммм... Этого больше всего сейчас не хватает:) Талантливый пилот Шеннон не только впечатляюще летает, удерживаясь в воздухе на сантиметрах высоты, так еще и успевает клепать офигенные мувики:) Вот эта, смотрите, обязательно, особенно начиная с 2:00 минуты!!!
In Australia summer is coming, and pilots enjoy flying the Malibu.... Mmmm... This is what I miss the most now! Shannon Black, the talanted upcoming pilot, is not only soaring dunes with mere centimeters of altitude, but also making cool dynamic movies about it! Watch this one, especially from 2:00!!!

А я в Москве. И мне тут... нравится! Не то, чтобы я хотела остаться жить в Москве надолго, но и возвращаться в Челябинск я уже не буду. Ощущение, что все хвосты закрыты и путь только вперед.
I am in Moscow. And I... like it! Not that I would want to live here forever, but I don't intend to go back to Chelyabinsk. It feels, that there is no going back, only forward.

С Москвой мне, тьфу-тьфу-тьфу, повезло. Живу я в удивительно добром месте, именуемом Юлькин дом. Помимо самой гостеприимной семьи тут еще есть кошка, рыбки и иногда даже сама Юлька:)
Don't want to jinx it, but it seems I've been lucky in Moscow. I stay in a very hospitable place, with Julia's family. In addition to these nice people there is a cat, an aquarium full of fish, and sometimes even Julia:)

Работаю я с людьми, которые мне нравится (кто не знает и кому интересно, я - программист С#, и работа тесно связана с российским фондовым рынком). График работы сдвинут, поэтому на часы пик в метро я не попадаю.
I work with people I like (for those who don't know and are interested: I am a C# programmer, and my work is closely related to the Russian stock market). My working schedule has shifted a bit, so I avoid the heaviest congestion in metro.

В Москве оказалось друзей не меньше, чем в Челябинске. Хочется видеть всех по очереди, и когда очередь заканчивается, можно начинать заново по кругу:)
На прошлых выходных, к примеру, сначала праздновали Юлькин день рождения - в квартире было полным полно народу, и воздушных шариков до потолка ванны (просто их уже некуда было девать, поэтому засунули в ванну:) А потом ездили летать с Маратом на его самолете. Красивейшая картина полета над облаками и забытое чувство перегрузок... ммм... Спасибо, Марат!
It turned out that in Moscow I have just as many friends as I had in Chelyabinsk.Last Saturday we had been celebrating Julia's 25th birthday - the apartment was full of friends, the bathroom was full of air baloons (because they were so many, we didn't know in the end where else to put them:) On the next day we went out of the Moscow to fly with Marat on his airplane. Spectacular views above the clouds, autumn gold from above, the forgotten feeling of G-forces...Mmm.. Thanks, Marat!

В Федерации Авиационного Спорта России зарегистрировали мой полет 308 километров как официальный рекорд России на дальность. Да, представьте себе! При этом, заметьте, по другим дисциплинам, кроме дальности, в России, судя по всему, официальных рекордов не зарегистрировано. А дисциплин много - такие же, как в ФАИ, то есть с возвращением, треугольники, на скорость, и т.п. И регистрировать их не сложно! И приветствуется в ФАСе! Так что, любой из вас, уважаемые дельталпанеристы, может поставить рекорд России:)
При этом есть еще у нас неофициальные рекорды. Юлька пролетела Форбс-Хей, 327 км, просто не на соревнованиях. Артур пролетел 250 километров, зато на территории России! Антон Струганов пролетел 150 с возвращением. А сколько пролетите Вы:)?
The Federation of Aviation Sports of Russia registered my flight of 308 kilometers as the official distance record for Russia. Cool, isn't it:)
We have a few unofficial records, which have to be mentioned: Julia flew 327 kilometers from Forbes to Hay, the longest distance ever for any Russian, just not in the official competitions. Arthur flew 250 kilometers within Russia. Anton Struganov flew 150 kilometers out-and-return within Russia.

В Австралию в этом году собралось человек, наверное, двадцать русских. Вот это я понимаю, тусовка так тусовка там соберется!
This winter(OZ summer) about twenty Russians are going to OZ for the Forbes competition and flying. Gonna make a new record!

В общем, вы понимаете, что дел очень много, и писать редко получается. Поэтому вот пишу таким скопом, а то когда еще соберусь.

Moscow - The First Glimpse

Москва, на первый взгляд, - это если взять ВСЁ население Австралии, забрать у них тепло, манго, океан и пляжи, и засунуть в одну систему метрополитена.
My first impression of Moscow is that it is a gray and grumpy place, the same result you'd get if you took the whole population of Australia and deprived them of their sun, their mangoes, their oceans and beaches and forced them into a huge, underground city.

Хотя я встретила сегодня несколько живых и клевых людей. Только многие из них, почему-то, говорили об эмиграции:)
I was delighted, then, to actually met some nice and lively people today. It was no surprise, however, that they were talking about emigrating somewhere else:)

Adventure Starts...

Вещи собраны. И у меня, кажется, малость меняется жизнь.
