Я на днях смотрела фильм, как лыжники\альпинисты покоряли Гору Святого Ильи (Mount Saint Elias) на Аляске высотой 5489 метра, с целью сначала забраться на неприступную гору, а потом скатиться с самого верху до низу, до Аляскинского залива, устроив самый длинный на планете спуск на лыжах.
A few days ago I watched a documentary titled "Mount. St. Elias" about a team of skiier/mountaineers determined to make "the planet's longest skiing descent" - ascending the mountain (5489 meters high) and then skiing nearly all 18,000 feet down to the Gulf of Alaska.

Впечатляюще. Я оценила, как это сложно даже просто забраться. Хотя из эквипмента у них по большому счету только лыжи. Как надо мириться с погодой, со снегом, с бурями и лавинами. Как надо уметь отступать, чтобы потом вернуться. А потом они спускались...Мммм... Красота. Оно того стоило. Но видно, как оно опасно, блин. Просто вертикальные отроги, то и дело сходящие лавины, лед вместо снега, то и дело торчащие скалы. Но ребята молодцы.
Impressive. I realized how difficult it is just to climb up. Although these guys didn't have that much equipment with them (they basically had only their skis). I realized how much effort it is to put up with the weather, with snow, with storms and avalanches. How you should sometimes retreat to be able come back later... And then they went down ... Mmmm ... Beautiful. It was worth it. But you can see how it is dangerous, damn. Just vertical cliffs, and avalanches now and then, and ice instead of snow, and rocks sticking out of the snow here and there . But they did a really good job.

Фильм про то, как отец и сын, Билл Мойес и Стив Мойес, покоряли высочайшую гору Африки - Килиманджаро (5895 метров над уровнем моря). К моему стыду, я до этого даже не знала об этой экспедиции. А она далась им ох как нелегко. Мало кислорода, высоко, холодно, Билл уже немолодой, два дельтаплана, куча запчастей и камер. Серьезная экспедиция. Тоже - молодцы ребята. Посмотрите фильм, кто не видел.

The film is about a father and a son, Bill Moyes and Steve Moyes, who conquered the highest mountain in Africa - Kilimanjaro (5895 meters above sea level). To my shame, I previously didn't even know about this expedition. The expedition was quite impressive and not easy at all. Little oxygen, high, cold, Bill was no longer a young boy, two gliders, a pile of spare parts and cameras. Serious expedition. They also did a really good job. You have to watch the movie, if you haven't seen it before.

И вот когда смотрела я фильм про лыжников и их длиннющий спуск (после длиннющего подъема), я думала, что ох как капец нелегко будет команде на Эльбрусе. Нужно же осуществить подъем по сложности, как был у лыжников на Аляске и у дельтапланеристов в Африке вместе взятых, а потом стартануть тандем и осуществить полет, более сложный, чем спуски у остальных ребят на других континентах. И думала, что что-то же вот движет таких людей. Движет перепрыгивать через свою голову. Шило в заднице, может быть :) ;) А если серьезно, то ведь что-то их отличает от других людей, предпочитающих сидеть в комфортных креслах дома. Интересно - что? Я думаю, с этим не рождаются. Этим заражаются где-то в детстве или юности. И если заразился - сложно жить по-другому... Наверное.
