Russian Open 2012

This year the Russian Open was held in a beautiful area of the Altay mountains. I've fully described the place already in my blog here and here.

Right before the Russian Open from the 7th to the 11th of July, they organized Altay Cup. There were 18 pilots competing in Altay Cup, and they had three tasks. Results can be found here. Artur Dzamikhov won the competition - congratulations!
С 7 по 11 июля в Курае провели Кубок Алтая. 18 пилотов приняли участие в соревнованиях, было разыграно три таска.

The Russian Open took place from the 12th to the 21st of July and attracted only 28 pilots. Usually we have more pilots competing, but the place is quite remote and the thermals are quite strong there, requiring better skills than average.

There were four tasks from 55 to 125 kilometers long. Results can be found here.

Anton Struganov on his new Litespeed RX4 won the Russian Open competition, and now he is a Russian Champion for the first time:) Congratulations!

Чемпионат России проводился с 12 по 21 июля и собрал 28 пилотов. Было разыграно 4 таска протяженностью от 55 до 125 километров. Результаты Чемпионата России и Кубка Алтая можно найти на сайте организаторов. Более подробно о соревнованиях можно почитать на сайте дельтапланеризм.ру.

Russian Open 2010

Ну что, русскоговорящие уже все равно все знают:) Как перевел с английского на русский свой долгий пост о ЧР Артур: Чемпионат России 2010 будет в Курае:)
Что тут еще добавить:)?
Вот САЙТ с описаниями, регламентом, регистрацией. Вот ФОРУМ с актииииивным обсуждением регламента. Из нового, пожалуй, только более ранние, чем обычно, сроки проведения соревнований (с 14 по 28 июня, никто толком погоду в это время не знает). И как-то дороговато все звучит в этому году. А так все как раньше - огромный завораживающий Алтай со своими родными красивейшими ущельями и ледяными речками:)
Ну, и для тех кто по какой-то случайности в Курае еще не был, я ТУТ довольно-таки подробно его описывала:)

I've written once already about the Kuray mountains, a wild and amazingly beautiful place near the border with China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan. This year the Russian Open and Russian National Championship are going to be held there from 14th to 28th of June. I think this place doesn't need any additional promotions - just look at the pictures:) The only questionable thing this year is the weather conditions at such early dates. Usually we fly there in July, but this year the dates were changed because of the European and Pre-Wrold competitions. I described everything about Kuray last time: map, living, weather conditions. I would only add that the Kuray mountains are so huge, so wild, that they really give this feeling of the strength and the endless energy of nature. And it draws your there like a magnet again and again.
Yes, it would be not an easy adventure for European pilot. It is a long flight (four hours flight from Moscow to Novosibirsk and then the organizers would give you a transfer to the flying place, which takes almost a whole day), it takes money (the Moscow-Novosibirsk-Moscow flight is about €250, transfer is €50, entry fee is about €200 with retrieve included, living is about €10 per day), it takes time (more than two weeks) and it takes balls (you've got to live in tents, wash your face and brush your teeth in a cold mountain stream, wash your body in a banya (a kind of sauna), fly in high mountains with at high altitudes, and land near one single road). But! It is unforgettable life experience, isn't it;)? Haven't you been everywhere, but there:)?

Kurai...Wild beauty and mountain flights in Russia.

Курай - излюбленное русскими пилотами место для горных полетов, находится в Горном Алтае, недалеко от границ с Монголией и Казахстаном.
Kurai is one of Russian pilots favorite places for mountain flights. It is located in the Altai Mountains, near the border with Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

Здесь веет широким размахом, величием и дикой красотой.

Сюда хочется возвращаться еще и еще.

Здесь даже воздух другой - кристально-чистый, прохладный, хочется дышать во всю грудь.
There is such a feeling of grandeur here, beautiful in so wild a way. This place make you want to come back again and again. Even the air is different here: crystal clear and cool. It makes you want to take the deepest breaths that you can.

В Курае совершенно фантастические пейзажи. Летаешь, затаив дыхание, над трехтысячными вершинами, сыпухами и снежниками, маленькими горными озерами разных цветов: от ярко-зеленого до иссиня-черного. Вот совсем рядом ледник Актру - высота вершины 4075 метров. Там летом тусуется куча альпинистов, любящих Актру за очень сложные альпинистские маршруты. Зимой там не пройти маршрутов - столбик термометра падает ниже -60 градусов. Да, разница температур в Курае зимой и летом огромная, даже днем и ночью тут хорошая такая разница - от нуля ночью до +25 днем. Что обеспечивает офигенный градиент и сильные потоки:)
There are absolutely fantastic landscapes in the Kurai mountains. You fly with baited breath above the three thousand meters high peaks and small mountain lakes of different colors: from bright green to bluish-black. It's very close to the Aktru glacier (4075m). During the summer there are lots of climbers who love Aktru because of its very difficult and interesting climbing routes. In winter they can't climb those routes: the thermometer drops below -60 degrees. Yes, the temperature difference between winter and summer is huge here. Even between the daytime and the night there is a quite big difference: from zero at night to +25 during the day. It makes for a good gradient and strong thermals:)

В районе Курая горы расступаются, открывая пилотам две долины: Курайскую и Чуйскую, разделенные узким беспосадочным горным горлом. Через обе долины бежит быстрая и холодная река Чуя.
The mountains divide near the Kurvai village, revealing two valleys to the pilots: Kurai and Chui, separated by a narrow mountain pass. The fast and cold mountain river Chuya runs through both valleys.

Уровень плато (уровень посадки) 1500 метров над уровнем моря. Уровень старта - 2500 над уровнем моря (1000 метров над долиной). Горы сразу за стартом еще на тысячу метров выше.

Погода обычно сильная и высокая. Летают до пяти тысяч метров, выше - страшно, мало кислорода все-таки.
The altitude of the plateau (of the landing fields) is 1500 meters above sea level. The altitude of the launch is 2500 meters above sea level (1000 meters above the valley). The mountains just behind the launch is another thousand meters higher. The thermals are usually strong and high. It is normal to fly up to 4000-5000 meters. It is scary to fly higher - very little oxygen, after all:)

Довольно часто здесь проводятся Чемпионаты России среди дельта- и парапланеристов. Да, летаем вместе и никто никому не мешает - места очень много. Наоборот, очень радуешься, видя по маршруту развесившихся парапланеристов.

Из-за достаточно жесткой погоды сюда пускают только опытных пилотов.
Both the Hanggliding and Paragliding Russian Open are often held here. Yes, we fly together amicably: there is enough space. We are very happy to see our spineless friends out on the route. Because of the quite tricky weather, only experienced pilots are allowed to fly competitions here.

Палатки, полевая кухня, душ на свежем воздухе, ледяной ручей, баня, костер. Наверное, нужно быть немного романтиком:) Но здесь правда очень хорошо. Из минусов тут отсутствие дорог в горах (посадка только в долине) и удаленность от цивилизации.
Tents, field kitchens, showers in the open air, the ice stream, banyas (the russian sauna), open fires. Perhaps you need to be a little romantic:) But it is really nice here. The only drawbacks are the absence of roads in the mountains (you can land only in the valley) and the remoteness from civilization.

I just read a report of a paraglider pilot about flights in Kurai. I liked the story very much. Overwhelmed by memories, I wanted to share. Thus this post was born. I'll include that story in my Russian text below but I won't translate it: my English is still too limited to convey the story's full range of feelings.
