Forbes 2011 - Summary

Итак, краткий итог соревнований в Форбсе.
So, here is my brief summary of our competitions at Forbes.

Результаты уже давно известны, победители объявлены, фотки просмотрены.
The results and the winners are already announced, all the photos have been posted. Not much to add, really.

Со всеми этими потопами в Австралии немного пилотов верило, что у нас будет хорошая погода. Но погода была. Хорошая. И даже совсем не турбулентная, как это бывает в Форбсе. Было реально мягко и добро. И таск комитет был отличный - выжал максимум из погоды.
With all of those floods in Australia, only a few pilots believed that we would have good weather conditions. And we had them! Sweet, wide, soft thermals, and it was not turbulent as it happens in Forbes sometimes. Our task committee was excellent - they extracted everything they could out of the weather situation.

Помимо нашего долгого трехсоткилометрового маршрута и нескольких других, менее долгих, но пару раз даже более сложных полетов, были еще следующие события, ранее мною не освещенные:
In addition to our remarkable 308 kilometer flight and a few others, not so lengthy, but sometimes even more complicated, there are a few more things to note which haven't been covered yet:

• довольно удачно прошло мероприятие Кёрта и Джонни по обучению пилотов маршрутным полетам перед соревнованиями;
  beginner XC pilots were delighted with their first goals which they made with the help of Curt and Jonny during the XC Clinic;
• появился новый и очень хороший буксировщик-женщина - Бена;
  We've got a new and a very good tug-woman - Bena

• в один из дней на старте был смерч, который номиным аппаратом сломал аппарат другого пилота. После этого Нома аппарат свой починил (на жаре целый час) и полетел (в отличие от второго пилота) таск. Без воды в подвеске. Весь уставший неудачно зашел на посадку и задел провода. Неплохо так шмякнулся, но жив-здоров:)!
  One day there was a very strong dust devil coming through the launch line. It lifted up Noma's glider and threw it at the glider of another pilot. Both gliders were damaged, but Noma spent an hour in the heat repairing his wing and he was just in time for the last start gate. He flew, being already very tired and with no water in the harness. That was the main reason, I think, why he ended up striking a power line before the landing. He crashed, but he is okay and his glider is also alive.

• в другой день пилот по имени Гай заземлился в деревья чуточку не долетев до цели. Жив-здоров:)!
  Another day a guy named Guy landed in the trees just before the goal! That's desperation! He is okay, but he had to fly another glider after that.
• мне вручили в конце соревнований кубок женского чемпиона, несмотря на то, что женщин были считанные единицы. Все равно приятно:)
  In the end of the competition I was given the women's champion award, despite the fact that there were very few women. It feels good anyway:)

Мои личные выводы.
My personal conclusions.

Я вот посмотрела свои треки. Сравнила их с треками топов. Ну и ничего нового:
I've looked at my track logs and compared them with the track logs of the top pilots. Well, nothing new:

• я сильно много времени провожу в слабых потоках;
  I spend too much time in weak thermals;
• в итоге я больше времени провожу, крутя потоки, и меньше - на глайде, чем топ-пилоты;
  As a result, I spend more time thermaling (comparing to gliding) than the top pilots;
• средняя скорость на переходе намного меньше, чем у топов.
  My average glide speed is much slower than the top pilots glide.

Не то чтобы я этого не знала раньше. Я ведь раньше уже об этом думала, и летала я с этим знанием. И принимала решения пропускать слабые потоки и обрабатывать только сильные. Но после этого я часто "перерисковывала" и приходилось выкарабкиваться с самого низу в еще более слабых потоках. Всем знакомая ошибка, да же ведь:)

То же самое и со скоростью на переходе: когда я решала летать быстрее и оставаться вместе с быстрой группой - пережимала и каждый раз приходила в поток все ниже и ниже, чем остальные, и потом уже не успевала выкарабкаться наверх так же быстро. Вроде совсем маленький проигрыш в качестве, но без должного умения пользоваться своими преимуществами в обработке потоков, этот проигрыш как стена прям для меня. А надо чувствовать, надо уметь находить эти быстрые потоки, надо наблюдать, принюхиваться и принимать уже правильные решения. Ну сколько можно-то уже ошибаться:)
Not that I did not know it before. I have been thinking about it. Moreover, I flew with this knowledge. And sometimes I was making the decision to skip a weak thermal and work only on strong ones... But then I often risked too much and had to scramble out from the very low altitudes in even weaker thermals than the ones I skipped. Everyone is familiar with this mistake, I suppose:)

And the same with the speed of my glide: when I decide to fly faster and stay together with a fast gaggle - I pull in too much and come to every next thermal lower and lower than the rest, and then I can not climb up so fast to keep up with the group.
I have such a little difference in glide ratio with others, but without proper skill to spot good thermals and to work with them (not lose them when they are not easy) I can't go ahead. You need to feel, you should be able to find those fast cores, it is necessary to observe, sniff and take the right decision. Well, how much longer I can take wrong ones:)

В Форбсе действительно очень хорошо. В 2013 году в январе там будет Чемпионат Мира. А в 2012 соответственно - ПредМир. На Мир-то пустят только национальную сборную, зато на ПРедМир пускают всех. Так что давайте, кто еще думает, - в следующем году идеальный шанс собрать большую русскую тусовку в южном полушарии:)
Forbes is really good. In January of 2013 there will be a World Championship held in Forbes. Which means, in 2012 there will be PreWorld's. At the World's only the national teams will compete, but at the PreWorld's... At the PreWorld's anyone can fly! How good is that:) We can have a really really cool flying party there next year:) So, if you were thinking about visiting Forbes one day - next year is a very good time to do that:)!
