PreWorlds - Tasks 4,5,6,7

Task 4. 144 kilometers with one turnpoint.
Strong cross wind. Not very easy towing. Thanks to my glider, it follows the Dragonfly very well. And thanks to Brendon, the tow-pilot. He helped me a lot on towing.
I was one of the very first in the air, so I decided to go on course first as well. I left the airfield, could not find the next thermal, and landed. But it feels nice to go first anyway. :)
37 pilots made goal, with Francoise in fifth on her little RX3. So, it is not about the weight, it is about the brain:) The winners of the day were Wolfgang Siess, Attila Bertok and Jon Durand Snr.

Task 5. 217 kilometers with one turnpoint.
Still cross wind, but not so strong. I had the same tactics, as the day before: tow up first, go on course very first. You think, it is stubbornness:)? But... it is not about the result in the comps. I really want to be able to go fast on my own. Even if in the beginning I bomb out a lot. But at least, I learned something about those lift-streets and sink-streets this time! Could not learn it in theory, had to experience it in a real life:)
27 pilots made goal. The winners of the day were Rohan Holtkamp, Scott Barrett and Steve Blenkinsop.

Task 6. 202 kilometers with one turnpoint.
Tail wind. Blue day.
I could not tow first, as I was not picked in early-birds lottery. Maybe I have to say thanks to that lottery, otherwise I would have done the same  thing what I did the previous two days?
I was towed last in the queue. Number 48 to be precise. Weaklink got broken halfway up, so I had to have low safe to get up. By the time I was ready to go, one hunderd pilots were gone. I decided to change tactics and not race myself to the ground, but stay conservative and stay high. This way of flying I learned two years ago here, in Forbes: if you always just thermal everything you find, sooner or later you will make goal.
I don't like this style of flying, I experience much better emotions when I race myself. But it was nice to be at goal (even if only the last one, 7:30 pm).
I met an eagle on the way, and Attila's tactics worked! Just before eagle wants to attack you - change a turn (from right circle, to the left one, for instance). He gets confused, he can't adjust so fast. If he wants to attack you again - just change the turn again. My eagle gave up after two interactions:)
The last 70 kilometers of my flight are worth mentioning. My team was already a long time in goal, and for my last kilometers they were my moral support. How cool is that when three champions - the World Champion, the European Champion and at least the German Champion - are keeping cheering you up: "hold on, just stay in this zero lift, don't rush, you are going to make it". For 70 kilometers I was drifting with zero-point-something, and I made it:) That was fun.

Crossing the goal line

I am in goal - Thanks to Fiona for the photos

Julia first in goal. Photo by Jamie.
46 pilots made goal, including 7 girls. The most impressive result was shown by Julia - she was the very first at goal
The winners of the day were Attila Bertok, Curt Warren and Jonas Lobitz.

Task 7. About 183 kilometers zigzag.
The weather conditions are improving (the best day for the record flying is forecasted for the day right after the competition is over, as usual:).
Today they promised some shade in the afternoon, but so far it looks okay. Maybe only the wind is a bit more headwind that it was forecasted.
I didn't fly a task.
Not enough motivation, one would say.
I was in an early-birds launch again, so I got a tow in the beginning of the day, but got a weaklink break (again!) too low to be able to stay up. I could only turn around and land on the other side of the field. Then I had to carry my glider all the way across the field by myself, as the dolly also got broken. By the time I went to the end of the queue, I was done for a day. Don't have anything to lose anyway, in terms of scoring:) So, good luck guys and girls, wish you a nice flight!
