Mother And Daughter

Есть уже так много примеров, когда отец и сын летают на дельтаплане. Джонни Дюранд и Джон Дюранд, Блай Олмос и Блай Олмос (фантазии немного, да:)), Роб Интогрин и Ринус Интогрин, и т.д. и т.п.
There are already so many examples of flying father-son couples. Jonny Durand and Jon Durand, Blay Olmos and Blay Olmos, Jr. :), Rob In't Groen and Rinus In't Groen, etc.

И вот в прошлом году появилась первая, очень милая и замечательная пара летающих мамы и дочки: Долорес и Ашанта. Две абсолютно светлые, добрые и такие родные леди из Швейцарии.
Last year we've got the first (and a very sweet and endearing one:) couple of mother and daughter flying: Dolores and Ashanta. Two absolutely bright and so dear ladies from Switzerland.

Долорес последнее время летает на жесткокрыле, а у Ашанты через пару недель уже будут первые в жизни дельтапланерные соревнования:)!
Dolores flies a rigid wing lately. Ashanta is flying a flex and in a couple of weeks she's gonna have her first hanggliding competition:)!

И в этом году появилась новая пара: Линда Саламон и Дана Нельсон, две обаятельные леди из Нью-Йорка, США.
And, can you imagine, this spring we've got another mother-daughter flying couple: Linda Salamone and Dana Nelson, two charming ladies from New York, USA.

Я познакомилась с Линдой два года назад на Женском Чемпионате Мира в Монте-Кукко, а год назад познакомилась с Даной на East Cost Championship'е в Америке.
I've met Linda two years ago during Women's Worlds in Monte Cucco, and later, in 2009, I've met her daughter Dana during the East Cost Champoinship in USA.

Дана была тогда драйвером и даже и не думала, что через год уже будет самостоятельно бороздить воздушные просторы:)
Dana was retrieving for her mom then and couldn't even imagine that she's going to be flying all by herself in only one year.

Спасибо Джеффу О'Брайену, опубликовавшему впечатления Даны у себя в блоге. Столько искренности, радости, восторга от волшебства полета там, что хочется читать и перечитывать, и радоваться-радоваться-радоваться:) Очень-очень-очень тронуло:) Советую читать всем, кто понимает английский.

Here Comes The Sun

Собирала свой дельтаплан и поймала себя на глюке: увидела красного паука на парусе и вдруг на несколько секунд совсем затормозила: не могла понять, в какой стране и даже на каком континенте я нахожусь. Знаете, бывает когда с утра просыпаешься на новом месте и ниче понять не можешь. Вот такое же чувство. Думала, таааак, красные пауки.. Где я? Австралия? Флорида? Европа? Место какое-то незнакомое совсем.. Где я? Пилоты вокруг все те же, горы не какие-нить особенные...Тормоз:)
I was breaking down my glider not long ago and I found myself really confused: I was looking at the red spider which was sitting on the sail of my glider and I was trying to figure out in which country and even on which continent I am right now. You know, sometimes you wake up in some new place and can not understand where are you and what's going on. It is the same feeling. Well, - I was thinking, - red spiders...Where could it be? Australia? Florida? Or Europe? Landing field was not familiar to me...Where I am? All the pilots are the same like everywhere, the mountains are not particulary special... Oh, I am silly.

А я щас в Италии, в Бассано. Тепло тут, наконец-то! Жара:) Надо включать кондиционер, представляете:)? Солнце, тепло, цветочно-морской запах Италии... ммм.. И полеты КАЖДЫЙ день. Песня:)
I am in Bassano, Italy. It is sooo warm here, finally:)! Heat! One would even need to turn on the air conditioner, can you imagine:)? Sun, warmth, the flower and sea smell of Italy...mmmm... And flying EVERY day. Such mercy!

На Чемпионат Германии не поехала, нет.. И не ругайтесь... Посмотрела на непонятный прогноз и испугалась повторения Тегельберга:

Women's Worlds - It's Over

Соревнования завершены и совершенно не разыграны. Тегельберг дружно переименовываем в Рэйнинберг (Дождеберг в русском варианте) и зарекаемся сюда приезжать весной.
The competition is over. We didn't fly one single task. Rename Tegelberg to Rainingberg and promise to never come here in spring.
I've never seen a place with such consistent conditions (c) Linda :)

Women's Worlds - Day 14 - Canceled

Не судьба. Мы прождали ВЕСЬ день. Снизу даже было солнечно немножко. Но мы были ВСЕ время в абсолютно белом непроницаемом облаке, и база так и не поднялась.
It must have been our fate. We had been waiting the WHOLE day long. It was even sunny a bit down in the valley. But on the launch it was milky impenetrable cloud all the time, and the cloud base never made it higher than the launch.

Снег, снег, снег, вода, дождь, мокрый дельтаплан, мокрые ботинки, туман, ниче не видно в десяти метрах. Все простывшие. Зима. Думала убежать в Австралию от зимы? Вот она, догнала!
Snow, snow, snow, melting snow, water, rain, wet glider, wet shoes, fog. Everybody is sick. Winter. I was thinking I got away from the winter in Australia, but now winter caught us!

А свифты полетали, кстати. Буксировка рулит.

Не поверите, мы едем на гору, потому что прогноз более-менее летабельный.

Can you imagine, we are going up the mountain, because the weather forecast is more or less flyable.

Class 2 Worlds - Day 12 - Task 2

Кстати, свифты полетали вчера таск 94 км. Только пять пилотов соревновались - остальные уже уехали. Манфред Румер выиграл день, Стив Кокс второй и Брайен Портер третий. Так что свифты теперь разыграли соревнования, так как у Манфреда уже 1748 очков (больше чем 1500).
By the way, class 2 (swifts) flew a 94 km task yesterday. Only five pilots flew. Manfred Ruhmer won the day with Steve Cox second and Brian Porter third. So, now swifts have a valid competition already with Manfred's 1748 points.

Иногда я тоже хотела бы стартовать с буксировки... Особенно в мае в Тегельберге!
Sometimes I would prefer to be aerotowed too... Especially during May in Tegelberg:)

Women's Worlds - Day 12 - Canceled

Прогноз был хороший. Правда. 9 утра - уже на горе. Собираем аппараты. В облаке правда, в большом снежном облаке. Но в ожидании, что база поднимется, солнце придет и мы полетим.
The weather forecast was good. Really. We were up on the mountain by 9 am, setting up the gliders in a huge snowy cloud, waiting for when the cloud base would lift up, the sun would show up and we would fly.

Сначала было весело.
In the begining it was fun.

После трех часов ожидания стало холоднее и грустнее. Облака не уходили, а только сменялись - снежное на градовое, градовое на дождевое и так по кругу.
After three hours of waiting it became colder and discouraging. The clouds didn't go away. Snowy clouds came after rainy clouds, clouds full of hail came after the snowy ones.

Так мы ждали до двух часов дня, продрогшие насквозь, уже поставившие таск, не имея возможности стартануть. В конце концов день отменили. А после отмены, под полностью затянутым небом - полетали.
So we waited until 2 pm, frozen completely, with the task without a possibility to take off. Eventually the day was canceled. And after they canceled the task, it became flyable, under the colmpletely overcast sky.

Women's Worlds - Day 11 - Briefing

Так как прогноз самый лучший - на день закрытия, сейчас идет активное обсуждение, можно ли сделать таск в день закрытия. Проблема в том, что жюри уезжают в пятницу, канатная дорога не оплачена, и самое главное - некоторые пилоты уезжают и не рассчитывали летать в субботу. Так что идет большое голосование. Похоже, что женщины готовы летать, свфиты тоже, а вот жесткокрылы не все хотят.
Now we are discussing the possibility of an extra task on Saturday in case we don't have a valid competition by then. The problem is that, according the rules, the last competition day is Friday, so some pilots have other plans, airplane tickets and are going to leave on Saturday morning, the jury is also leaving by Saturday, cable cars are not prepaid... Class 1 and Class 2 are ready to fly, but Italian and Swiss are still not convinced to extend competition...

Решение сделано: если до субботы соревнования не будут разыграны, то в субботу будет таск (если погода позволит).
Ok, they made a final decision: if competitions are not valid by Saturday, we will fly another task (if the weather conditions are conducive).

Было солнце! Было красиво! Мы успели собрать дельтапланы и практически поставить таск. Но полчаса солнца принесли такую грозищу, что таск отменили сразу.
We had a bit of sun! It was so beautiful! We even set up our gliders and almost set a task. But half an hour of sun brought such a strong thunderstorm that they canceled the task immediately.

Women's Worlds - Day 10 - NOT Canceled yet

Погода не меняется, прогноз не меняется до конца недели... Но соревнования подходят к концу, поэтому день пока не отменяем... Решение отложено до 12 часов дня. Будем пользоваться любой возможностью.
The weather conditions are the same as yesterday (even worse, actually), the forecast for the rest of the week is the same: bad... But the competition is coming to an end, so we haven't canceled the day yet... We will wait for 12 o'clock for the final decision.

Первый вопрос организаторов с утра: с чего начать: с погоды или с культурной программы? Да, погода помимо сильно дождливой стала еще и очень ветреной. День отменен.
The first question from the organizers in the morning was: With what should we start: the weather review or the entertainment program? Yes, the weather conditions have become not just rainy, but very windy as well. Day canceled.

Вчера у нас была итальянская ночь с живой музыкой. Позавчера у нас была баварская ночь с национальными немецкими танцами, очень смешно. Так весело тут, что некоторые пилоты уже потихоньку покидают соревнования - слишком уж весело.
Yesterday we had the Italian night with the live music. Two days ago we had the Bavarian night with the German national dancing, very funny. Today it's gonna be the movie night... It is so much fun, that some of the pilots are even leaving the competition already - too much fun, maybe.

День отменен. День сурка. Ничего не меняется. Завтра-послезавтра к дождю добавляется сильный ветер.

Ну, с каждым днем пилоты спят все дольше, сегодня даже никто не вылез из под одеяла с утра, пока я потихоньку уходила на тимлидерский брифинг. Как я рада, что в этом году понимаю английский и могу ходить на эти брифинги: тут всегда сплошные шутники:)
Day after day our pilots sleep longer and longer in the morning, nobody was moving under the blankets while I was getting ready to leave for the team leader's briefing. I am glad I can speak better English lately and I can attend briefings and understand everything: there always are so many jokes here:)

А день сегодня опять отменен. Вечером - баварская ночь. Большая пати здесь.
The day was canceled again. Tonight it will be the Bavarian night, quite a big party.

Women's Worlds - Day 6 - Canceled

Они поступили достаточно интересно с этим Археаоптериксом. Они его все-таки исключили из свифтового Чемпионата Мира и сделали паралельный Тегельберг Археаоптерикс/Свифт Опен 2010.
А еще один свифтовый пилотв вчера сказал, что из двух существующий типов свифтов только один имеет доказательства, что он может заземлиться на ноги:)
They made an interesting decision about Class 2 (Swifts) competition. They decided to exclude the Archeaopteryx from FAI Class 2 World, so there are only nine competitors there now. At the same time, they are going to have the Tegelberg Archeaopteryx/Swift Open 2010 with the ten competitors.
The funny thing is that there are two types of swifts, as far as I know, and only one of them has proven that it can be foot landed:)))

Women's Worlds - Day 5 - Canceled

Итак, с утра не переставая льет дождь. Как и обещал прогноз. Нет шансов полетать. День отменен.
So, it is raining quite hard since early morning, as the weather forecast promised. No chance to fly. Day canceled.

Как оказалось, вчера свифтовый таск выиграл не Румер, а другой чел, Бернард Филиппе, и не на свифте даже, а на неком Археаоптериксе о_О (фотки ниже). Манфред был первый на финише, но Филиппе выиграл за счет лидерских очков. Вау. Говорят, этот Археоптерикс очень хорошо термики крутит.

Но сейчас, ПОСЛЕ первого таска, идет очень активное обсуждение, можно ли считать этот Археоптерикс свифтом, то есть дельтапланом пятого класса. А именно стоит вопрос, может ли данный аппарат садиться на ноги. Гы. Пилоты обычных свфитов обычно отвечают: можем, но не хотим. Как бедный Археоптерикс будет выворачиваться:)?

It turned out that yesterday's winner was not Ruhmer, but another pilot, Philippe Bernard, who doens't even fly a swift, but the Archeaopteryx (pictures below). Manfred was first at goal, but Philippe beat him because of leading point. Wow. They say this Archeaopteryx climbs really well.

But now, AFTER the first task, they are having hard discussion about whether or not this Archeaopteryx qualifies as a Class 2 glider. The question is could the pilot of this glider land on his feet? :) The pilots of the typical swifts usually answer: we could, but we don't want to. Now I am curious, how this poor Archeaopteryx is gonna solve this problem?

Class 2 Worlds - Day 4 - Task 1

А свифты, кстати, полетали вчера свой таск! Буксировка форева! Правда им несильно легко пришлось: 79 км летели два часа. Но я с удовольствием протусовалась весь день на летном поле в окружении пилотов, аппаратов, зеленой травы и долгожданного солнца! И с удовольствием посмотрела как Манфред крутит петли на финише и как преданно следуют за ним другие пилоты на маршруте:)
By the way, the swifts flew a task yesterday! They have the advantage to launch with towing. The task was not that easy, actually: they flew only a 79 km task and it took two hours for them. I spent all day long on the airfield between pilots and gliders, on the green grass and under the warm sun with so much pleasure! And it was fun to watch how all the pilots were following Manfred on the course and how Manfred beat them all and made a victory loop above the goal:)

Интересная штука, что десять свифтов затягивались полтора часа двумя буксировщиками: один драгонфлай и один мотодельт. По пять штук на каждого. По 18-20 минут на каждого. Так долгооо, есть куда расти:)
Interesting moment: the two towing aircraft (dragonfly and trike) had been towing ten swifts for one and a half hours. There are five swifts for each towing aircraft. It takes 18-20 minutes for one swift. Quite slow... One could say, there is a lot of room to improve in this area:)

Еще интересную штуку мне сказали, что в прошлом году на ПредМире (который и проводится по идее для тренировки и проверки организации для Мира), когда дельтики и жесткокрылы не летали ни одного таска, свифты разыграли три таска, потому что они буксировались и летали по долине, в то время как в горах старт был в дождях и грозах. Мне сейчас интересно, а не было бы лучше, зная это, пригнать сюда больше драгонфлаев и тележек и иметь возможность разыгрывать таски ВСЕМ, не только свифтам? Это же все таки Чемпионат Мира, не какой-нить национальный Чемпионат с маленьким бюджетом. Уж можно было бы и постараться, чтобы не сидеть тут без дела.
I was told about one other interesting thing: last year during the PreWorlds, when flexies and rigids didn't have any tasks, the swifts had three tasks, because they were towed and flew above the valley while in mountains there was rain or even thunderstorms. And now I am very curious: wouldn't it be better to invite a few tow pilots with their dragonflies to give the opportunity to Class 1 and Class 5 to have a task? Because it is still a World Championship, not just a little national championship with not that much money.

Women's Worlds - Day 4 - Canceled

Что ж, еще один день отменен. Обещают фен, сильный южный ветер, опасный, по словам местных (порывы в долинах до 90км/ч). Сейчас все обсуждают всевозможные развлечения, которые есть тут вокруг.
I'm at team leaders briefing now. They've just canceled the day because of the expected strong southerly winds (Föhn): gusts up to 90kmh. Now they are discussing all the other activities to chose from around here.

Women's Worlds - Day 3 - Canceled

Ну что, была надежда, была. Прогноз плохой был, с утра уже дожди, но это же Альпы - надеялись, что продует, удует, баварский северный ветерок и термики (ох, видели бы вы эту погоду с утра и наши улыбки при гордом слове "термики") передавят южный ветер - фен.
Ну, мы заехали, даже пособирали аппараты (только девочки, на самом деле; жесткокрылы даже не чесались). И честно подождали 12:30 и отмены таска. И даже запрета на фри флай. Потому что все очень уж плохо выглядело.
Хотя часов после около трех было потом все-таки летное окно. Но маленькое, недостаточное для таска.
So, we had some hope in the morning. The weather forecast was bad. It was raining. But we are in Alps! We were hoping that the winds will carry away all this rain, that the Bavarian north winds and weak thermals (the word "thermals" was quite out of place:) will get stronger than the south föhn and will give us a chance to take off.
So, we went up the mountain and even set up the gliders (actually, only the girls did it, while the rigids didn't look like they were going to fly at all:). And under the rain we waited until 12:30, when the task was canceled and even free flights were forbidden. It looked really unflyable.
Though later, about 3pm, there was a little flyable window, but it was not long enough for a task.

Ну, а потом, как я успела написать в тот день, мы поехали в Kristall Therma - горячие соленые источники, разные бассейны с разного уровня соленостью и температурой + сауна. Все соленое:) Щипит:) Но кайф! Особенный кайф - это залезть в самый горячий и самый соленый (нужно много усилий, чтобы удерживаться под водой ) бассейн, который находится на улице под отрытым небом. Из неба мерно нарапывает дождик. Вид из бассейна прямо на горы, на старт, на все эти подсвеченные башни и замки. Самое лучшее - на закате, когда горы ненадолго становятся крррасными. И еще в этом бассейне ПОД водой играет музыка. Опускаешь уши в воду и играет клевая музыка. Кайф:) Рекоммендую всем ста пилотам, ошивающимся в Тегельберге сейчас:)
And after that, as I wrote before, we went to Kristall Therma - hot salty springs, different pools with different level of heat and salinity + sauna. Everything is so salty there, it burns even, but it feels really good:) The best part is to dive into the hottest and the saltiest pool (really salty, it is hard to be under the water, it keeps pushing you up to the surface) located outdoors. When the rain sprinkles, you are laying in the hot water and looking at the red colored moutains during the sunset and highlighted romantic castles, and you are listening to nice soft music which is playing only UNDER the water. So nice:)! I recommend it to all one hudred pilots, looking for some activities around Tegelberg now:)

After a day full of attempts to find Julia's lost mobile phone, this local man found us and gave us her phone, which he had found in the parking space:)
